Here at Mindmap Studio, we’re creating a training and coaching course about mindmapping for dyslexia and exams. This video explains a bit more about the course and is our invitation to you to join us in the test run.

The end goal of the course is that each student can prepare a mind map on one A4 sheet of paper and this mind map contains all of the information necessary for their exam in a particular subject.

We believe that this course in unique and that mindmapping hasn’t been taught in such a specific way before. We’re looking for 12 families to join us to test the course out as we develop it and this video is your invitation to be one of these families.

I learnt how to go into the exams for my law degree and theology diploma with one A4 map covering my whole course and I’d like to teach the students of this course how they can do that too.

To prepare for any exam I condense my subject into one map that I call a flash map. This map contains all the keywords, relevant facts and ideas in 150 words and images. I redraw it repeatedly and score myself on how much I have remembered and keep going until my recollection score is high.

On exam day,  I draw the flash map a few times and then 10 minutes before the exam, I re-draw it for the final time and  and test it. I'm confident I can remember that one sheet of A4 paper for 10 minutes. I walk in the door of the exam, sit down and ask for a spare bit of paper.

When they say ‘begin’, I don't look at the questions but instead I immediately draw my mind map from memory and that gives me the confidence that everything that is inside my head in now on my A4 sheet of paper in front of me. This means that my mind won’t get blocked up and confused with trying to remember everything and answering the questions at the same time.

Now I open the exam sheet and begin answering the questions using my mindmap as a checklist and memory sheet for all of the information that I need.

This is the exam and studying technique that I’ll be teaching in this course.

I’m dyslexic and so I understand about the poor timekeeping, poor memory, poor spelling and poor writing that can be part of dyslexia. I also know that dyslexics are very creative in their thinking and want to do exams and excel in them. This course appeals to that creative thinking and the ideal time to learn about mindmapping is one or two years before you start your exams when you’re 13 or 14. This gives you time to really get to grips with the new skills that you’re learning before your revision starts.

Why would you do the course?

Studying and remembering information can be a real challenge to a dyslexic. This can be especially apparent in High school years when there are exams to navigate.

Learning to organize your thoughts and be productive with what you have learnt is a very valuable life skill. Mind mapping is a very simple way of doing that and it's highly regarded worldwide. Once you have learnt to mind map it saves a great deal of time when you are studying. It also plays to the strengths of dyslexia.

How will the course be structured?

Throughout the course we are going to use teaching videos, study groups, coaching and rewards.

There will be one hour a week of teaching videos. In these videos we’ll begin with how to mind map and capture your thoughts on the mind map, how to capture a textbook into a mind map and how to turn a blog into a mind map. Then, we're going to look at how to combine different mind maps into one map and how we can use it to achieve results. We’ll look at how to take your mind map and use it for a presentation,an essay, a test or an exam. In addition to the teaching videos there will be online study groups to discuss any challenges and share tips and successes. There will also be a private Facebook group.

At the end of the course there will be certificates and rewards for the students.

What will this course cost?

Some of this material is already available on our website and facebook page but the added value of this course is the availability of study groups and more personal coaching which guarantees better results.

In January 2018 we’ll be launching this course worldwide and it will cost £380-£1250.

For the 12 families who sign up for the pilot course it will cost £108.

Our promise.

I promise that you will end this course able to mind map for an exam. You will learn a revision strategy for your exams that is straightforward and makes sense to the way that you think.

I guarantee that you’ll be happy with what you learn and if you’re not then then there is a 100% money back guarantee.
